India | Nimbapura | Hampi

From October 29th to November 2nd, I embarked on a journey to Hampi, taking advantage of the Diwali holidays. I booked a bus through Raj's Travels and Transports, with the fare being 1,905.28 INR from Penukonda to Hampi and 2,355.10 INR for the return journey. Despite expecting a comfortable ride on the sleeper bus, the poor road conditions made it difficult to sleep.

Accommodation: Abhi Homestay Hampi
Upon arrival in Hampi, I checked into Abhi Homestay Hampi. The cost was 3,000 INR per night. The host, Abhi, was incredibly warm and welcoming, making me feel at home from the moment I arrived. Abhi was very helpful with my questions and requests, even suggesting a sightseeing plan that saved me a lot of time. The homestay's convenient location was a major advantage for exploring the area.

Getting Around: SRI VIRUPAKSHEWARA Rent A Bike
Following Abhi's recommendation, I rented a small scooter from SRI VIRUPAKSHEWARA Rent A Bike. The rental cost was 3200 INR from 12 PM on October 29th to 7 PM on November 1st. The rental process was straightforward and the staff were friendly.

October 29th Itinerary
  • Virupaksha Temple
  • Kadalekalu Ganesha
  • Underground Shiva Temple
  • Hazararama Temple
  • Mahanavami Dibba
  • Secret Chamber
  • Step Tank
  • Queen's Bath
  • Malayavanta Raghunatha Temple
  • Matanga Hill

I visited several temples, most of which were free to enter, using the scooter. While I had high expectations for Virupaksha Temple, Matanga Hill left the most lasting impression. The sunset view from the top of Matanga Hill, which takes about 30 minutes to climb, was breathtaking. FYI, the Chai drink on the hill was really good. It costs 20 INR.

October 30th Itinerary
  • The Stone Chariot
  • Lotus Mahal
  • Elephant Stables

These were paid attractions, and I again used the scooter to get around. Sitting inside the temple at The Stone Chariot and absorbing the positive energy was a fulfilling experience. I recommend carrying a 600 INR note for entry. Also, don't forget to bring 50 INR for The Stone Chariot.

October 31st Itinerary
  • Sanapura Lake
  • Anjanadri Betta (Kishkindha)

I took a ferry to the northern side, carrying the scooter along. The ferry point is located at Talwar Gatta Ferry Point. This is the only ferry spot where you can load your scooter. After enjoying the scenery at Sanapura Lake, we headed to Anjanadri Betta as planned. The path to Anjanadri Betta was much better than the one to Matanga Hill. Even though we had to hike barefoot, the trail was well-maintained, so it wasn’t a problem. Climbing up to the temple area involves about 600 steps and takes around 20 minutes. Despite the rain, I made it to the top, and it was absolutely worth it.
* Note: Visitors wearing inappropriate attire, like shorts, were not allowed to enter.

November 1st Itinerary

  • Monkey Paradise Cafe
  • Hippie Island

Having explored most of the tourist spots, I spent the day relaxing at Monkey Paradise Cafe. I napped, ate, and enjoyed drinks, feeling truly happy. Later, I visited Hippie Island to watch the sunset, although the path was somewhat obstructed by weeds.

November 2nd Itinerary
  • Chillout Bamboo Restaurant

After checking out, I relaxed at Chillout Bamboo Restaurant until my bus departure. I enjoyed doing absolutely nothing, which was a perfect end to my trip.

Final Thoughts
Renting a scooter was essential for a comfortable and flexible trip around Hampi. I recommend planning a 3 day itinerary to fully enjoy what Hampi has to offer.
